(a rare post with no Jack content...)
We had a nice vacation with Matt and Toni out in California last week. It was nice to have somebody along who could take our picture since we usually don't get many together.
The first 3 days were spent in Napa, visiting wineries and sweating in the 100° weather. It didn't take long to learn how to get passes for free wine tastings, or how to extend the tastings beyond the basic 5 wines usually offered. It was a fun time even though I don't like wine.
On the drive down to Monterrey, we stopped in Santa Cruz to see the beach boardwalk. It wasn't that interesting so we didn't stay very long. After getting to our hotel, we took an evening drive on the 17 mile drive. It was strange to see such beautiful houses with amazing views right next to rundown and boarded up houses with overgrown lawns.
We visited Tehama Golf Club (Clint Eastwood's course), Pebble Beach and Spanish Bay for the golf part of our vacation. We took some scenic drives along the ocean and stopped at a couple of beaches and needed our sweatshirts! The Monterrey/Carmel area was anywhere from 60° to 85° depending on where we went so it was hard to get dressed in the mornings. It was also close enough to the fires that we noticed the ash in the air, especially if we were wearing black!
