A Boy's Room...Finally!

We've been slowly transitioning from Jack's nursery to a big boy room over the last month or so. First we got the big-boy bed and sheets with cars and trucks. Then we painted a 2-tone blue room. I put up a valance the other day. Yesterday we sold his changing table and today we purchased a dresser from Ikea! (Here's a picture of the painted room.)

I've been searching craigslist for about a month and thought I had found a few promising pieces, until I actually went to look at them. They were either smelly, flimsy, had broken parts or a sticky surface when listed as "like new" or "good as new." We didn't want to spend the money at a furniture store because $400 doesn't get you much these days. Sad, isn't it? Ikea had better quality particle board furniture for the money when compared to most other stores selling comparable pieces. When you know it's probably going to get beat up on, or colored on, or something like that, it's hard to justify spending very much. Most furniture is built so poorly now anyways.

We're happy with the dresser after about 4 hours of assembly by yours truly — yep, I put it together all by myself. It's rather long (63 inches!) but not very tall so it doesn't look too massive in the room. All we have left now is to adorn the walls. I've got some decals that match his bedding but I'm waiting to put those up so the paint has a lot of time to set and they'll be less likely to peel it off when we remove them down the road. I'm not sure what else we'll need, but I'll put up some more pictures as it comes to an end.
